What is iTrustCapital?
- Name- iTrustCapital.
- Date founded- 2018.
- Headquarters- Irvine, California
- CEO-Todd Southwick
- Types of crypto- Bitcoin+ 30+ types of crypto+ gold and silver.
iTrustCapital is a digital asset IRA platform that lets clients buy and sell cryptocurrency and precious metals in their retirement accounts.
iTrustCapital offers several IRA account types but is best known for its “crypto IRAs” which focus on accounts holding cryptocurrencies.
They have some of the lowest fees of any cryptocurrency IRA.
If you’re looking for a tax-leveraged cryptocurrency account with good customer service, iTrustCapital is worth a look.
iTrustCapital also offer a gold and silver IRA option, but I strongly advise you not to open a precious metals IRA account with a crypto IRA company. It’s because these companies treat gold IRAs as a side dish compared to the main course which is Bitcoin IRA.
Instead, you need a gold IRA company to open a proper gold IRA account. (note: check out my guide to the best gold investment companies to find the best gold IRA provider for you (these providers only sell real gold, and not fake stuff). Also read my guide to avoiding gold IRA scams here.).

Strong Focus on Customer Education
iTrustCapital are a legit company. They’re not just trying to sell to you no matter what. They don’t want you uniformed and uneducated.
Instead, they want to educate you so you can make the decision that’s best for you.

You can Buy Gold and Silver Bullion with this Crypto IRA Company
I think the best way to open a gold IRA is with a gold dealer that specializes in gold IRAs, (see my list of the best gold IRA companies here). The level of support you can get from a purely gold IRA company is unmatched.
That said, iTrustCapital is an excellent choice if you want to invest in in Bitcoin, various cryptocurrencies and gold and silver all at once and together.
iTrustCapital Review 2024- the Company's Pros Explained! #bitcoinira #cryptoira #goldira #nikolaroza Share on XiTrustCapital Cons (Complaints)
- Very restrictive refund policy.
- Very young Bitcoin IRA company.
- Custodial wallet (you don’t control the keys).
- No mobile app.
- Limited cryptocurrency selection.
Complaint 1- Very Restrictive Refund Policy
iTrustCapital have a very restrictive refund policy.
iTrustCapital’s refund policy is that they’ll refund fees if an account is canceled because the account was not funded. If there is a balance, a support representative can coordinate a transfer, and there are no fees after the assets are transferred out.
Complaint 2- Very Young Bitcoin IRA Company
iTrustCapital was founded in 2018, making them relatively young at the time of this review. Despite their short time in the industry, iTrustCapital has demonstrated their legitimacy and quality of service.
However, in any market and industry, a company’s longevity serves as a significant indicator of their legitimacy and reputation with customers. With only 6 years of operation, iTrustCapital continues to establish themselves. Thus far, they have excelled, facilitating investments in digital IRAs for hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals.
Complaint 3- Custodial Wallet (You Don’t Control the Keys)
iTrustCapital does not permit you to hold your digital assets in your personal wallet. Instead, these assets must be held by a third-party custodian.
iTrustCapital partners with Fortress Trust, recognized as one of the leading custodial services for digital IRAs and assets, to handle this aspect of their service.
Complaint 4- No Mobile App
iTrustCapital have a very usable website, on both mobile and desktop. However, they lack a dedicated mobile app to use exclusive on mobile phones.
It’s a missed opportunity as many people exclusively use their phones to browse the web, and to them mobile apps are obviously very important.
Complaint 5- Limited Cryptocurrency Selection
iTrustCapital offer 34+ cryptocurrencies you can trade with inside the platform. This is a decent number, but a rival company like Bitcoin IRA offers more than 60 different cryptos to trade with.
Read my Bitcoin IRA review here.
iTrustCapital review 2024- the Company's Cons Explained! #goldira #silverira #nikolaroza Share on XiTrustCapital Fees and Pricing
iTrustCapital do not have a monthly or yearly maintenance fees to utilize their platform.
They do have some fees though and these are:
- 1% Transaction Fee for the buying and/or selling of cryptocurrencies;
- $50 over spot, per ounce for Gold;
- $2.50 over spot, per ounce of Silver.
Should You Open a Gold IRA with iTrustCapital?
iTrustCapital are primarily a crypto IRA company. That’s their forte and the area they excel in.
They also offer the option of opening a gold IRA with them. If you’re going to open a gold IRA with a Bitcoin IRA company, then iTrustCapital is the business to do it with.
You will be catered to accordingly and be a happy customer.
According to iTrustCapital:
“iTrustCapital utilizes VaultChain™, investment-grade gold and silver held physically at the Royal Canadian Mint with ownership managed via a secure blockchain distributed ledger. iTrustCapital clients can buy and sell gold & silver 24/7. Clients place transactions through iTrustCapital’s platform which executes through precious metals leader Kitco.”
That said, iTrustCapital only offer gold and silver IRAs and they don’t sell platinum and palladium bullion.
So, you’ll need to look elsewhere if you want to buy platinum and palladium coins and bars.
I recommend you check out my Birch Gold Group review as this premium gold IRA company sells bullion made from these two types of precious metals.
Other two gold IRA companies to consider if you’re looking for a pure precious metals IRA company are Augusta Precious Metals (read my Augusta Precious Metals review) and American Hartford Gold (read my American Hartford Gold review here).
iTrustCapital Customer Support
What’s the support like with iTrustCapital?
iTrustCapital have excellent customer service with many ways of contacting them.
The best way to get in touch with iTrustCapital is via telephone. Contact them on (562) 600-8399 to get your questions answered.
The second best way is to contact them via their contact form.
Other ways to contact iTrustCapital are via their official social media profiles.
- iTrustCapital official Twitter profile.
- iTrustCapital official LinkedIn profile.
- iTrustCapital official Facebook profile.
Note: Contacting iTrustCapital via social media is reserved for trivial questions you have about investing in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
For more serious matters your best bet is to call them or send them a message via their site’s contact form.
iTrustCapital Lawsuits
While doing my research I found only two lawsuits iTrustCapital were involved in.
I detail these below with reference links and screenshots if you want to investigate further.
Lawsuit 1- RDI FINANCIAL LLC VS. ITRUST CAPITAL, INC.
On August 12, 2020, the company RDI Financial LLC initiated a lawsuit for breach of contract against the company iTrust Capital, Inc. RDI Financial filed the lawsuit in the Orange County Superior Courts, specifically the West Justice Center location in Orange, California. The court has not yet classified the current status of the case.
Lawsuit 2- RUINING NUNGARAY VS. ITRUST CAPITAL, INC.
On November 1st, 2022, Ruining Nungaray brought a labor-related lawsuit against ITrust Capital, Inc. This lawsuit, whose details are not specified by the court record, was filed at the Orange County Superior Courts in the Orange County Civil Complex Center located in Orange, California. The current status of this case is undetermined.
Note: no more information is available online about this trial against iTrustCapital. Once more is surfaces I’ll make sure to update my review here.
Note: iTrustCapital is a relatively young crypto IRA company, which partly explains why there have been only two lawsuits filed against them so far (the other part being their reputable and legitimate business practices).
As they continue to grow, it’s likely they will face additional legal challenges. I will ensure to update my guide here once new developments occur.
Is iTrustCapital Legit? Are They a Scam? What are Their Scores on Popular Consumer Watchdog Websites?
iTrustCapital are not a scam. They are a legit Bitcoin IRA company with excellent scores on Trustpilot, Google My Business and other popular consumer website.
Take a look:
Consumer Watchdog Websites | Number of reviews | Score | Number of complaints in the past 12 months |
---|---|---|---|
BBB | 2 customer reviews | 1.5/5 | None or very few complaints |
Trustlink | No profile | No profile | None or very few complaints |
ConsumerAffairs | None or very few complaints | ||
Google My Business | 831 customer reviews | 4.8/5 | None or very few complaints |
Trustpilot | 3143 customer reviews | 4.8/5 | None or very few complaints |
Note: for some reason, iTrustCapital has no reviews on BBB and ConsumerAffairs, the other two popular consumer watchdog websites.
Probably because they’re still a relatively young company.
However, iTrustCapital have a profile on Birdeye, with a score of 4.9/5 stars and a whopping 2800+ customer reviews (at the time of me writing this review).
What about iTrustCapital’s Negative and Bad Customer Reviews? Do They Exist?
Negative and bad reviews about iTrustCapital exist online, but I purposefully didn’t include them here in my review.
Why?
Because a large chunk (not all of them) of them are fake reviews posted to harm iTrustCapital’s reputation.
Remember that iTrustCapital is a Bitcoin and crypto IRA company operating in the digital IRA niche. This niche is very competitive and unethical marketing practices are common among competitors.
Posting fake customer reviews is one such tactic.
I’m not saying all of the bad reviews you can find are fake, but it’s impossible to discern which negative reviews are real and which are fake. So, I played it safe by including only positive testimonials here.
If you want to find negative reviews and complaints about iTrustCapital, all you need to do is go to Google or Bing and search queries like “iTrustCapital negative reviews,” “iTrustCapital negative review,” “iTrustCapital complaints,” “iTrustCapital bad reviews,” “iTrustCapital bad review,” “iTrustCapital reviews and complaints,” and similar.
You can find this info easily, just be aware that the content you’re reading could very well be fake, AI-generated, and definitely inaccurate.
You can click here to jump to the section of my review where I explain the common complaints about iTrustCapital that you need to be aware of to truly make up your mind.
And to show you that iTrustCapital is a legitimate Bitcoin IRA company, here are some of the resolved complaints they’ve received on their BBB profile.
You can see how the company is quick to respond to customer complaints and do everything they can to solve them successfully. BBB-complaint-responsiveness is a hallmark of a legitimate business.
For example:
Here’s someone complaining about the unexpected 401k conversion fee of $75. The customer’s issue is that no one told them about this fee, and they spoke to several people from iTrustCapital.
The customer demands a full refund and later they posted on BBB that they’re satisfied with the company’s prompt response.
Here’s another example. This person had a lot or trouble transferring money to iTrustCapital. Their seems to have been some kind of a delay where the money was sent but it was stuck at “pending” for a long time.
iTrustCapital successfully resolved this issue and the customer indicated they’re happy with the company’s response.
