There is a truth that is globally acknowledged, and that is that smartphones have become an inseparable part of our daily lives. They have transformed the way we do many things in life from communicating with people, to playing games to doing basically everything through those handy devices.

Almost all websites online have mobile versions alongside desktop versions. In the past, this was most definitely not a thing because smartphones were not on the top as they are today. However, now there are websites that are intended for use by mobile users only.

Mobile technology has come a long way. The first smartphone, named Simon, was launched 33 years back in November of 1992 which was designed by IBM and produced by Mitsubishi. Nowadays, we have newer, more advanced versions of smartphones coming up almost every quarter of the year from different manufacturers.

But are these new versions better ones and what do they actually offer that older models don’t? The future of mobile technology is definitely promising and there are so many things to be excited about. In this article today, we will discuss those exciting new things that are foreseen in the near future of smartphone technology. So, without further ado, let’s get going!

Foldable and Flexible Displays

While it is true that we have already seen the launch of foldable phones, this novelty is still at its initial phase in the smartphone industry. Unfortunately, the screen of the already launched foldable phones seems to still not be durable enough, as it breaks and damages from the phone folding. Hence, companies are advancing the material used for the screens of foldable phones.

As a result, it is expected that in the future, we will have better quality foldable phones and more of those with flexible displays. At the moment, we only know of rigid screens but if we are to look at them and their lifespan, they also often break or don’t function well over time. Thus, having more flexible and softer displays can solve the problems of rigid screens.

5G Connectivity and Beyond

As we have already seen, 5G has had its rollout in the past recent years and people seem to enjoy the benefits of it. In simple terms, 5G means better, faster and more efficient internet for smartphones. While smartphones are primarily used for communication purposes, the gaming industry is also slightly moving towards mobile versions only. People, especially the younger generations, just love the idea of playing from the comfort of their smartphones.

5G plays a huge role when it comes to gaming on your smartphone. Let’s say you like to have a wide variety of games on your phone. Some of them will not require internet but sometimes it necessary to assure high-quality internet connection like for playing mobile casino on your phone in order for the game to not freeze and make you go mad for having a loss due to connection issues. Your smartphone needs fast and reliable internet. This is exactly what 5G offers, fast and reliable internet and we already have that available in today’s world. Nevertheless, higher versions of mobile internet are also expected to appear in the future of smartphone technology.

Enhanced Security and Privacy

Security and privacy on the internet but in smartphones specifically are a huge discussion, particularly because a considerable amount of its users are minors. It was reported that 42% of American children have a smartphone of their own once they reach the age of 10, so keeping those kids safe is one of the top aims of tech development companies.

Security and privacy are also a concern for adults using smartphones, especially with the use of biometric authentication data for many applications nowadays. Hence, it is being worked to improve the mobile technology security for all users globally and newer more advanced versions should be able to provide that in the future.

Improved Battery Technology

Battery technology is also one of the areas that need improvement in smartphones. Even though batteries in smartphones have come a long way, they are still not at their top form. In the past, most smartphones used nickel-cadmium (NiCd) or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries which were not that efficient. They consume way more energy and would keep it for a shorter period of time.

Nowadays, smartphones use lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. Their energy density levels are quite high compared to the other battery versions and they are lighter in weight, which is why smartphones are also lighter. It is expected that in the future the battery technology will be improved to a greater scale as a lot of promising battery technologies are under development.

While we can discuss disadvantages of smartphones all day long, we can also not deny the fact that they have changed many things for the good in our global society. For example, people can work using their smartphones nowadays and this is definitely revolutionary compared to only 20 years ago. Additionally, to think that there are even more unimaginable advancements coming is definitely exciting!
