American Hartford Gold Pros
Excellent Customer Reviews on Consumer Watchdog Websites Scores
American Hartford Gold have excellent scores on popular consumer watchdog websites with hundreds of positive customer reviews on them.
- BBB– 4.89/5 stars based on 504 reviews.
- Trustpilot- 4.8/5 stars based on 1208 reviews.
- ConsumerAffairs- 4.7/5 stars based on 820 reviews.
Keep in mind that these high scores are the result of hundreds of positive customer reviews people have left on these websites. The sheer number of reviews shows you that American Hartford Gold is an excellent company (hint: a higher number of reviews almost always means lower scores).
Easy Account Setup Process
It’s easy to set up a gold IRA account with American Hartford Gold. All you have to do is download their free gold IRA kit and their sales agent will contact you to take things further.
If you do decide to open an account you can expect AHG’s helpful staff to guide you all the way from start to finish.
Minimum hassle for you as a customer.
Purchase Gold and Silver Directly From American Hartford Gold
American Hartford Gold help people with IRA rollovers but also with direct purchases of physical silver and gold. This is an excellent option for investors who want to own physical precious metals closer to home instead of in some far-away depository.
Another pro to buying physical precious metals with American Hartford Gold is that their minimum investment requirement for gold and silver purchases is one of the lowest in the industry. Namely, you only need $5000 to order coins and bars from AHG and get your bullion delivered to your home.
Compare that to the $50 000 minimum investment requirement of Augusta Precious Metals. The difference is huge in favor of AHG.
Read my American Hartford Gold vs Augusta Precious Metals guide to learn how these two gold IRA companies compare. You can also read my Augusta Precious Metals review and my Augusta Precious Metals pros and cons guide here.
American Hartford Gold have very affordable fees for potential investors and savers.
You can expect to pay $175 – $225 for account set-up, custodian and depository fees.
Note: the fees get lower as the value of your gold IRA account rises. For example, they have an annual IRA fee of $75 for accounts valued at $100,000 or less; and $125 for accounts valued at $100,001 or more.
American Hartford Gold offer free shipping to all customers who order from them, regardless of the volume purchased.
According to AHG:
“Our orders are shipped free of charge and all packages sent include insurance and tracking at no additional cost.”
Excellent Refund Policy
American Hartford Gold have an excellent 7-day customer-protective refund policy.
According to this policy, you’ll receive a full refund within 30 days if you cancel a transaction within the first 7 days.
This money-back guarantee is one of the best in the industry. For example, Augusta Precious Metals also have an excellent, 7-day refund policy, but it’s only applicable to first-time purchases and customers.
Further compare that with a company like Goldco (also an excellent company, read my Goldco Precious Metals review here) which issues no refunds, except in rare cases when the bullion gets stolen or lost during transport.
First-Time Customer Bonuses
American Hartford Gold offers some nifty bonuses to their first-time customers.
As a first-time customer with them you stand to get up to $5000 in free silver and up to 3 years with no IRA fees (avoid paying for transfer, storage and account maintenance).
American Hartford Gold Cons
There is no Pricing of Products on Their Website
American Hartford Gold don’t publicly display their pricing on their website. To learn what their services cost you need to download their free gold IRA kit and get in touch with their sales agent who’ll explain to you in great detail everything u need to know about investing in precious metals, including their fee structure.
You can also read my American Hartford Gold fees guide to learn more about this topic.
Limited Payment Options are Available
American Hartford Gold give you limited options when it comes to paying for the precious metals you ordered from them.
The available payment options are checks, wire transfers and IRA rollovers.
You Can’t Purchase Platinum and Palladium With American Hartford Gold
American Hartford Gold don’t stock platinum and palladium products. Even though these precious metals are popular with investors and savers alike.
With American Hartford Gold you can only buy gold and silver coins and bars, which is an inconvenience for someone who wants to invest in other precious metals, but also a missed opportunity for the company to make more money.
Hidden Margins (Markup)
American Hartford Gold don’t publicly display their margins (markup) on their website. It’s a definite con and not a good look for a company that wants to get as many new customers as possible.
But it’s also very, very common. I’ve reviewed several dozens of gold investment companies on this blog, and so far, the only business that proudly displays their precious metals markup for everyone to see is Augusta Precious Metals (via their disclosures page).

Buyback Policy Leaves a lot to Be Desired
American Hartford Gold’s buyback policy is that they don’t guarantee the buyback of the metals they sold to you.
According to US law, they can’t offer a precious metals buyback guarantee, but they still encourage all ex-customers who want to sell their gold and silver to come to them first, and they might be able to help. The accent here is on “might”.
This is definitely not ideal, but again it’s the law and also pretty much what every other gold IRA company is forced to do in a similar situation. None of them can guarantee to buy back the precious metals they sold to you. And they especially can’t guarantee the price as gold and silver are very volatile precious metals.
No Bitcoin and Crypto IRA Options
American Hartford Gold are strictly gold and silver IRA company. They don’t offer the option to open a Bitcoin and crypto IRA accounts.
So if you’re looking to open a crypto IRA account make sure you read my guide to the top Bitcoin IRA companies next.
If you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to read my guide, you can read my Bitcoin IRA lawsuit and reviews article to learn how to open a crypto IRA the right way.
Not an Online Gold Dealer
American Hartford Gold are not an online gold dealer. You can learn about the precious metals items they offer on the website, but you can’t order those products like you would from some online store.
Instead, you need to download their free gold IRA kit, get in touch with their sales agent (they’ll contact you via telephone) and take it from there.
Decent Number of Complaints on BBB
In the last 36 months, American Hartford Gold have gotten 35 complaints on their BBB profile. That’s an average of 1 complaint per month. In the last year alone they got and successfully resolved 20 different customer complaints.
It seems people are starting to complain more about AMG, which is bad; but what’s good is that the company is on top of this problem and is working hard to resolve these issues for every customer who has a problem with their service.
(Relatively) New Player on the Market
American Hartford Gold are a relatively new player in the gold and silver IRA market. They were founded in 2015 which means they’re almost a 10-year old company.
10 years sounded like it’s a decent time period, and it is. But it also pales in comparison with a company like Goldco (Goldco are an excellent gold IRA company, read my Goldco reviews guide here.) founded in 2006.
Being a younger company isn’t a red flag per se, but in general, the older the company has survived and thrived in the market, the more legitimate and high quality its service is.
