9 Ways to Get The Grammarly Free Trial in 2023

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: Grammarly doesn’t come with a classic free trial that lets you test its advanced features.

Grammarly’s official website doesn’t even mention a free trial. So, when you sign up for the software with your email, you are basically getting the “free” version, which is limited to basic edits.

If you go the classic route, you’ll have to upgrade to use the more advanced features.

Below are 9 ways to test Grammarly Premium for free before buying. All of the methods worked at the moment I sat down to write my Grammarly free trial guide, but some of them might be obsolete at this point.

#1- Get a Grammarly Free Trial by Taking Advantage of The Refund Guarantee

Note: Grammarly recently updated their TOC to say that refunds are in their own words:

“Except as described in the Terms of Service, Grammarly Premium subscriptions are non-refundable, and Grammarly will not prorate any fees paid for a subscription that is terminated before the end of its term.”

And (TOC):

“Refunds: You may cancel your Grammarly paid account at any time (instructions on how to do that are here). Refunds are issued if they are required by law.

This means this method of getting a Grammarly Premium free trial is potentially not effective anymore. But if in your country it’s required by law to issue you a refund, then go for it.

Grammarly Premium accounts are not refundable

So, Grammarly doesn’t offer a classic free trial, but that doesn’t mean you can’t test out the application for free.

An effective way to see whether Grammarly Premium is worth your buck or not is by taking advantage of the company’s refund guarantee.

Here is what you can do: Sign up for the free account and upgrade to premium.

There is a 7-day money-back guarantee, which allows you to get your hands on Grammarly’s premium features for free.

But, remember, while signing up for the premium plan, you’ll be entering your credit card details. So, you’ll be charged if you don’t request a refund within the first 7 days.

Here is how you can leverage the refund guarantee to use Grammarly premium for free:

Step 1: Go to Grammarly’s homepage and sign up for the free Grammarly account

Grammarly free trial through their homepage

Step 2: After logging into your free account, navigate to the left-hand side of your dashboard and click on “Premium”.

Grammarly premium free trial inside the dashboard

Step 3: Next, click “Get Started” under the “Premium” Column.

pick Grammarly Premium

Step 4: Grammarly will now redirect you to its monthly, yearly, and quarterly packages.

Select any one of those.

Pick a Grammarly plan to activate free trial

Step 5: Lastly, enter your payment information and proceed to checkout.

Grammarly free trial will be activated after payment

That’s it.

You are ready to use Grammarly’s premium features now. Note that you’ll be charged the initial amount by the app at this stage.

But, as there is a 7-day money-back guarantee, you can get the full refund within the next week.

#2- Get a Grammarly Free Trial by Referring Grammarly to Friends

Update: this method is no longer working. Feel free to skip it.

you can't get a Grammarly free trial via their referral program
You can no longer get a Grammarly free trial via their referral program- it doesn’t work anymore!

If you initiate a refund request within the first 7 days of paying for Grammarly premium, you’ll get your money back, no questions asked.

But the question is, can you continue to use those premium features even after those 7 days? Well, there is a way to do that as well.

You can get 7 free days of trial for the premium plan for every friend you bring to the platform. All you need to do is, make them sign up for the app through your referral link.

You can bring as many as five friends through your referral link, which would let you use the software for 5 weeks without paying a penny.

That said, the referral option is only available after you’ve used the software for 7 days.

#3- Get a Grammarly Free Trial by Asking them on Twitter and Facebook

The third option for getting a Grammarly trial in 2023 is to directly contact the Grammarly team on their Facebook or Twitter page, or the official website and ask for a free trial.

By going this route, you’ll avoid giving away your payment and credit card details and you’ll still get Grammarly Premium to try for free.

However, there is a chance that the company might reject your request. It helps if you have a large following on Twitter or Facebook.

#4- Get a Grammarly Premium Free Trial For Students and Teachers (EDU License)

Most universities in the world have deals with Grammarly to give their student and teachers free access to Grammarly Premium.

If you’re a  university student or teacher, then you can ask your university to give you a Grammarly EDU license which is equivalent to Grammarly Premium.

Here are 3 examples of colleges giving free Grammarly Premium accounts to their staff and students.

Note: besides using Grammarly Premium to spot the grammar and spelling errors, make sure you also use the Hemingway App (it’s free)  to improve your writing style and say more with fewer words.

You can use Grammarly and Hemingway editor in tandem for the best results, so check out my Grammarly vs Hemingway App article for more info on how these tools differ, and how to combine them for the best results.

#5- Get a Grammarly Free Trial by Making Contact With the Official Team

This method is similar to the third one, except that instead of contacting Grammarly people via social, you will get in touch with their sales team via Grammarly’s official website.

Here are the steps:

First, click this link and open a free Grammarly account.

Second, use the tool for about a week. Make sure you actually use it to improve your writing. The Grammarly team will want to see you’ve used the tool well before giving you a free trial

Third, go to the Grammarly sales page and ask for a free trial. Simply say you’re loving the free version and before buying would like to test drive Grammarly Premium for at least 7 days. Then ask politely for a 7-day free trial.

Here’s the template you can use to ask for a free trial of Grammarly Premium.

“Hello Grammarly team.

I’ve been using Grammarly free for 7 days now an am loving it. It really is an awesome tool. I’m seriously considering going premium. However, before I do, do you think it’d be possible to let me test drive Grammarly Premium first? I’m talking about  a simple 7-day free trial.  One week is more than enough time for me to make up my mind. Thank you for your consideration and have a great day”. Hope to get that free trial if at al possible:)

#6- Get a Grammarly Premium Free Trial for 30 Days by Joining Their Affiliate Program

Did you know that Grammarly has an affiliate program?

And did you know that by becoming an affiliate, you can get a 30-day free trial of Grammarly Premium?

It’s true.

When I became an affiliate a while back I immediately got an email from their affiliate manager telling me I can get Grammarly Premium for free to test drive it.

#7- Get a Grammarly Premium Free Trial for Your YouTube Channel Review

YouTube is a massive platform with hundreds of millions of daily users and billions of daily watch time. A tiny, but a still significant portion of those goes to Grammarly-related videos.

In other words, there’s an audience to be served on YouTube and if you’re a YouTuber, you can use that fact to get a Grammarly free trial.

Here’s how.

First, click this link and create a new Grammarly account.

Second, use the free version for the next 7 days, or about a week.

Third, send the Grammarly team a message via this email (partners@grammarly.com) letting them know how much you love Grammarly Free, but also how you’d like to have a premium version so you can do a proper Grammarly review.

If you do this there’s a big chance you’ll get Grammarly Premium on a 7-day or even a 30-day free trial.

Use it to create an awesome Grammarly review and then send them the link via email. If you do this right there’s even a chance they’ll give you Grammarly Premium for free.

Though this is not a guarantee.

Here’s an example of a vlogger promoting Grammarly.

And here’s someone talking directly about Grammarly free trial in their YouTube video.

#8- Use Group Buy to Get Grammarly Free Trial (Not Recommended)

If you search in Google “Grammarly Premium group buy” you will see plenty of websites offering Grammarly Premium for cheap via a mutually shared account.

Sounds tempting, but should you do it?

The answer is no. Because it is against Grammarly’s terms of service which means they can cancel and delete your account at any point in time.

It’s just not worth the hassle.

Instead, whether you’re a student, blogger, freelance writer or essay writer, use one of the other ways on this list to get a Grammarly free trial and sleep easy at night knowing your premium account won’t get banned and you won’t lose your money.

#9- Get a Grammarly Premium License With 45% Discount

This is not a way to get a Grammarly Premium free trial, but it is a way to get the premium version with a 45% discount.

Here’s how.

First, click this link and install Grammarly Free.

Second, use the free version for the next 3 weeks to 30 days.

Third, at this point, you will get a message from Grammarly in your inbox where they will offer you a 45% discount if you upgrade to Grammarly Premium.

It’s up to you whether you accept, but this Grammarly Premium discount is one the biggest you can find online, and the second largest is the 20% Grammarly coupon offered by their affiliates.

Note: recently Grammarly has started to offer 50% discounts on Grammarly Premium subscriptions.

50% off makes Grammarly really affordable, almost to the point of not needing a free trial at all:)

#3- Can You Get in Trouble for Using Their Refund Guarantee to Try Grammarly for Free?

No, you can’t. Grammarly folks are aware that this is happening but they turn a blind eye to it because they can’t stop it in any way; and because Grammarly is such a quality product that many people who take Grammarly Premium for a free spin end up purchasing a subscription.

#6- Is There a Grammarly Business Subscription Free Trial?

There is a Grammar Business Subscription free trial, and it’s pretty straightforward to get it.

See how below.

#8- Is There a Grammarly Plagiarism Checker Free Trial?

There is no free trial specifically for the Grammarly Plagiarism checker.

If you need an affordable plagiarism checker, then I suggest you read my Quillbot review. Quillbot, besides being a content summarizer and paraphraser can also check your content for plagiarism at a very affordable rate.

You can get a discount on Quillbot as well. Learn about Quillbot pricing and Quillbot free trial too.

#9- How Much is Grammarly Free Trial?

After the free trial is over, you can pick to pay for Grammarly Premium in monthly, quarterly, or annual instalments.

The monthly price for Grammarly Premium is $29.95,, however, if you pick a yearly plan the price drops to only $11.66/mo, which is a 61% discount off the full price.  What’s more, the 61% discount will be repeated on each yearly Grammarly subscription renewal for as long as you don’t cancel your subscription.

Note: please be aware that this pricing model is for a single user only.

The Grammarly pricing model is not as straightforward for the Business account. The amount you’ll be paying depends on how many team members will be using the service.

For example, if you have a team of 10 people, you’ll be paying $250/mo, or half of that if you opt for the yearly license of Grammarly Business.

Learn more about Grammarly pricing here!

Grammarly Business$120.83 per month for 10 members- annual billing.

#10- How to Cancel Grammarly Premium Free Trial?

You don’t need to do anything to cancel Grammarly Premium free trial. Whether you took advantage of their 7-day or 30-day free trial, it will automatically end after the allotted time period has passed and you will be downgraded to Grammarly Free.

And of course, you won’t be charged anything because you don’t need a credit card to activate the Grammarly trial.

#11- What Other Grammar Tools  Besides Grammarly Offer Free Trials I Can Take Advantage of?

Many if not all grammar checking tools and apps offer free trials you can take advantage of.

However, I recommend you check out either some AI writing software tools or AI paraphrasing software tools. This is because all of these tools can write and rephrase content for you and they all come either with a native Grammarly Premium integration or with their own grammar/spelling features which are good replacements for Grammarly Premium.

And, they pretty much all offer free trials of their services.

#12- What Other Plagiarism Checkers  Besides Grammarly Offer Free Trials I Can Take Advantage of?

I currently use the Quillbot Plagiarism Checker App to check for duplicate content. However, plagiarism checking is a feature that comes with a paid version of Quillbot and not with the free one. As such I don’t recommend it unless you want to buy a Quillbot premium subscription.

My second tool of choice is Copyscape, but before deciding you need to read my guide to the best plagiarism checkers here!

My third choice is Originality.ai. It’s an AI content detection software that can also check for online content duplication.

Read my review of Originality.ai here!

You can also read my guides to Originality.ai coupon code, Originality.ai pricing, and Originality.ai free trial.

Finally, my fourth and final tool of choice is Jasper AI. Jasper AI is an AI-powered text generator and it has nothing to do with what Grammarly does best (check for grammar, spelling, and writing style errors).

So why do I mention Jasper AI here?

Because Jasper AI comes with a free Grammarly integration that enables Grammarly right within the Jasper AI dashboard.

To learn more about Jasper AI make sure you read my Jasper AI review, Jasper AI free trial, Jasper AI pricing, and Jasper AI coupon code guides next.

Grammarly is free to use with Jasper AI. No need for Grammarly's free trial when you have a subscription to Jasper AI.

#13- Can I Use Google Bard to Fix My Grammar Mistakes Instead of Going for Grammarly Free Trial?

You can use Google Bard to fix grammar mistakes in your text instead of using Grammarly Premium free trial.

But should you use Google Bard to fix your grammar?

It depends. If you’re a casual writer looking to fix spelling and sentence structure mistakes then by all means use Google Bard.

But don’t use Google’s AI chatbot if you’re a student looking to deliver an important paper to your professor, or if you’re a writer looking to submit your novel for review. For those types of documents, you need to use a professional type of grammar checker like Grammarly.

#17- Is There a Grammarly Free Trial for Military Personnel I Can use?

Grammarly free trial for military personnel doesn’t exist. Grammarly doesn’t have special trials and discounts for active and retired members of the military.

It’s a clear sign a website is trying to trick you if you see them offering “Grammarly military free trial” or “Grammarly military discount”.

These military-exclusive offers don’t exist.

These include:
