SEMrush vs Moz in 2023…
There are a lot of SEO tools on the market, and SEMrush and Moz are two of the most popular. They both offer many features, but which one is the best? Which one will be most helpful to you?
In this blog post I compare SEMrush and Moz and see which one comes out on top.
Let’s get started!
What is SEMrush?
SEMrush is a powerful intelligence tool for online marketing, SEO, PPC, social media, and video advertising research. SEMrush gives you detailed insights into the strategies of your competitors and reveals the opportunities for you to outrank them.
You can use SEMrush to:
- Do keyword research – Use the SEMrush Keyword Magic Tool to find relevant keywords. Then export that keyword list and use them in your content marketing strategy.
- Track your rankings– SEMrush has a pro rank tracker and you can use the Position Tracking tool to track your organic rankings for specific keywords and in different search engines. Tracking your rankings will allow you to make informed decisions when it comes to your SEO strategy.
- Analyze your competition– Use SEMrush’s Competitor Analysis tool to check your competitor’s website and see what keywords they rank for. When you discover their most important keywords, you can then proceed to steal them.
- Generate backlink ideas– Use SEMrush’s Backlink Gap tool to find new backlink opportunities for your website. Just enter a couple of your competitor’s URLs, and you’ll get a list of websites that link to your competitors, but not to you. In other words, these are your new potential link prospects.
- Check website health– Use the SEMrush Site Audit tool to check for technical issues that are hurting your site’s performance in Google. Site Audit will also give you actionable tips for fixing those issues. It’s one of the best SEMrush features you can get with a paid subscription.
How to Use SEMrush?

SEMrush paid plans give you access to various features that can improve your website’s performance in search engine results pages (SERPs).
One of the most valuable of these is the ability to track your keyword rankings. This information is used to identify areas where your website is losing ground and to adjust your SEO strategy accordingly. This is also helpful if you want to start an affiliate program or a career in creating marketing copy.
Here are some features SEMRush offers.
SEMrush Site Audit
Website auditing is essential for any online business that wishes to grow.
SEO and technical audits help you identify areas where your website is performing well and potential areas of improvement. The latter is more important because what you’re not doing or what you’re doing badly is an area where you can grow.
The SEMrush Site Audit report will give you recommendations on what to fix.
Position Tracking and SEMrush Rank Tracker are essential to staying competitive in search engine rankings. By tracking your position for your business’s key keywords, you will see how your rankings evolve over time and identify any potential areas of improvement.
Position Tracking also allows you to compare your performance against your competitors, giving you valuable insights into their SEO strategies, so you can copy what works.
Additionally, you can use SEMrush’s Rank Tracker to monitor the effectiveness of your current SEO campaign.
Backlink Audit is a crucial SEMrush feature.
With SEMrush’s backlink checker you can measure the quality of sites hitting your site, an also the equality of referring domains hitting your competitor’s URLs.
This is crucial because backlinks from low-quality or irrelevant websites will hurt your ranking in search engines.
Backlink Audit also allows you to find and disavow those spammy backlinks before they do harm.
SEMrush can generate customized reports for you. These reports can be used to track progress, assess performance, and identify areas for improvement.
SEMrush gives you a variety of report types, including competitor analysis link building, and keyword research.
Each downloadable report contains data that can be used to improve your website’s SEO.
Finally, SEMrush’s reporting features are easy to use and allow you to create customized reports that meet your specific needs, or the needs of your clients.

Semrush vs. Moz Pro: Which SEO Tool Should You Buy?
The SEO universe is constantly changing, and as a result, there are always new tools being released that claim to be the best. From affiliate marketing software to marketing strategies, online businesses are constantly coming up with new approaches to be ahead of the competition.
Both Semrush and Moz offer a comprehensive suite of features that can aid you in boosting your website’s ranking in search results. However, Semrush is widely considered to be the more user-friendly option, with an intuitive interface and straightforward features (my SEMrush best features guide explains it better). On the other hand, Moz is more geared towards advanced users and offers more complex features.
Another key difference between the two tools is the range of features they offer. SEMrush offers 55+ different tools and capabilities, while Moz has a more focused offering of just 10+ features. This makes SEMrush a better option if you’re looking for an all-in-one solution, while Moz Pro may be more suitable if you only need a few key tools.
Finally, it’s worth considering how easy each SEO software is to use. SEMrush has a large learning curve, but it becomes really straightforward once you get used to it. Moz Pro, on the other hand, is user-friendly from the start, with an intuitive interface and well-designed dashboard. This makes Moz Pro a clear winner in the usability department, but it’s alsoa minor thing indeed as you can master SEMrush in a matter of 1h or less.
So, SEMrush or Moz Pro…
which tool is right for you?
It depends on your budget/needs but if you require an all-in-one solution with a wide range of features, SEMrush is the tool for you.
And if you need only a handful of specific tools and Moz Pro happens to have them, then Moz Pro may be a better option.
Moz Pro is definitely worth checking out, especially since they have a 30-day free trial too.
