What is Wordtune?

Wordtune, a rival app to Quillbot
Wordtune is a writing tool that uses AI to suggest alternative wording for sentences and phrases and provide real-time feedback on tone, formality, and clarity. Wordtune helps its users save time and effort by generating multiple options for phrasing and sentence structure.

You can use Wordtune on their website for free (though severely limited), and via their Chrome extension. There’s also a premium version of Wordtune, covered in detail below.

What is Quillbot?

What is Quillbot?

Quillbot is a paraphrasing tool that uses AI (a custom mix of NLP and NLU technologies) to rewrite content in a more simplified or complex form, depending on the user’s preferences.

Quillbot is a free paraphrasing app that has a paid tier as well.

In the free version, you can use the Quillbot Grammar Checker, Quillbot Summarizer, Quillbot Citation Generator, and a paid Plagiarism Checker.

Quillbot vs Wordtune- Installation

Let’s see how easy or hard it is to install Quillbot and Wordtune.

Installing Quillbot

Quillbot is a SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) app, meaning you can use it online (and you don’t even need to open an account on a free version).

This means there is nothing to install on your computer as Quillbot is not computer software.

However, Quilbot offers a Chrome extension that you can install, see how below.

More details are below.

First, go to the Quillbot Chrome extension page and click on the “add to Chrome” button.

Installing Wordtune

This means there is nothing to install on your computer as Wordtune is not computer software.

However, Wordtune offers a Chrome extension that you can install, see how below.

More details are below.

Second, enable the Wordtune extension on the website you intend to use Wordtune on. In my example, I’ve enabled it on nikolaroza.com.

Third, start using the Wordtune extension. It’s very limited and to gain real value from Wordtune you’ll eventually need to upgrade, but it’s a good start nonetheless.

That’s it.

Quillbot or Wordtune- Which App is Easier to Install?

Both Quillbot and Wordtune are SaaS apps you can use online without downloading a thing, so they’re equal in that regard.

They both have Chrome extensions you can install and the process is pretty much the same.

I give these two apps a tie on this criteria.

Quillbot vs Wordtune- Free Plans Compared

Both Quillbot and Wordtune offer free plans you can use without even signing up. However, that’s where the similarities end.

While Quillbot gives you roughly 80% of its features for free, Wordtne just gives you a small glimpse of what it’s capable of.

Learn more below.

Quillbot

As mentioned right above, Quillbot gives you a lot of tools for free.

  • Grammar Checker– Check the text for grammar and spelling mistakes. Unlimited usage.
  • Summarizer– Summarize a large block of text for free. You can input up to 1200 words on a free plan. Unlimited usage
  • Quillbot Translator– translate from English to over 30 world’s biggest languages. Or vice versa. Unlimited usage.
  • Citation Generator–  generate accurate citations for free. Unlimited usage.
  • Chrome extension– you need to open a free account to use the Quillbot Chrome extension, but once done you get unlimited usage, the same as with Quillbot’s web-based app.

Finally, there’s the Paraphraser as Quillbot’s flagship tool. Quillbot doesn’t give you full access as obviously, they have to make money somehow, but you do get access to Standard and Fluency modes within the Paraphraser.

You can use this tool as much as you want during the day. The only limitations are that you can paraphrase up to 125 words at once, you have only 2 paraphrasing modes, one Freeze Word and you can’t jack up the synonyms diversity functionality to the max.

Quillbot Paraphraser limitations on a free plan

Overall, I recommend anyone to start with Quillbot Free before they potentially upgrade simply because there’s so much value in the free tools Quillbot gives.

For example, Quillbot Grammar Checker is a great alternative to Grammarly Premium as their grammar-checking capabilities are pretty much on par.

Wordtune

Similar to Quillbot, Wordtune also offers a forever-free plan.

However, unlike Quilbt which has obviously decided to give a ton of value upfront to inspire people about what else is possible with a paid plan; Wordtune has decided to just give a sneak peek of what’s available in Wordtune’s paid plan.

That’s why Wordtune Free:

  • Limits total rewrites to 10 per day (counts all features).
  • Gives access only to  Rewrite, Casual & Formal Tones, Shorten & Expand.
  • Allows only sentence-level rewrites (paragraphs level rewrites are reserved for paying customers).

Wordtune's free plan is severely limited

Overall, the free version of Wordtune is good just to get some live samples of its paraphrasing ability and nothing more.

Quillbot or Wordtune- Which App Offers a Better Free Plan?

Quillbot offers a ton of features for free and even those features that are limited are still 5x more abundant than what Wordtune gives you.

Winner- Quillbot.

Wordtune vs Quillbot – User Interface

Regarding the user interface, there are some notable differences between Wordtune and Quillbot.

Quillbot’s Interface

Quillbot’s dashboard is extremely easy to use and master.

On the left sidebar, there’s a bunch of icons that are actually links to Quillbot’s apps, most of them free.

  • Paraphraser (paid, but free mode available);
  • Plagiarism checker (paid);
  • Co-Writer (free);
  • Grammar Checker (free);
  • Citation Generator (free);
  • Summarizer (free);
  • Translator (free).

Below it there are links for:

  • Installing Quillbot on Google Chrome;
  • Installing Quilbot on Microsoft Word;
  • Upgrading to a premium version of Quillbot;
  • Getting help from Quillbot;
  • Reaching the Quillbot Help Center.

access Quillbot apps through the left sidebar

In the middle of the page, there’s a large content editor where you can change your content using Quillbot apps.

At the bottom of the editor, there are three buttons that let you tinker with the settings of Quillbot’s tools, see your Quillbot usage statistics and give feedback to the Quillbot team.

Finally, on the upper right, there are buttons to switch between different versions of the English language (America English, Canadian English, Australian English, and British English,) turn on the dark mode and access your account’s details.

Quillbot AI intuitive dashboard and excellent user experience

And that’s it!

Overall, Quillbot’s dashboard and interface are very intuitive and easy for anyone to grasp in just a couple of minutes.

Wordtune’s Interface

Wordtune also has a simple and intuitive interface that is easy to use. Once you log into Wordtune you can highlight a word, phrase, or sentence and click on the Wordtune icon to see alternative options for rephrasing or restructuring the text.

Below the text, there are standard options you find within any online based editors (italic, bolding, bullet points, ordered lists, unordered lists, underlining…)

Above the text there are Wordtune paraphrasing modes you can use to rewrite content.

These are:

  • Casual;
  • Formal;
  • Shorten;
  • Expand;
  • Spices.

These are all self-explanatory, but Spices is a feature unique to Wordtune (Quillbot lacks it).

You use it by selecting the text you want to enhance and then clicking the “Spices” button. Then pick what you want Wordtune to do (add a statistic, make a joke, continue writing, give a thorough explanation, emphasize…)

Wordtune Spices feature

You can also use the editor panel on the right to see real-time feedback on the tone and formality of your writing and make adjustments accordingly. It also shows you corrections and recommendations to the text you need to make to significantly improve your writing.

If you keep writing within Wordtune editor over time you will because a better writer, one who makes fewer mistakes overall.

Wordtune has a simple and intuitive dashboard and user interface

Quillbot or Wordtune- Which Tool Has a Better Interface?

Wordtune has a better more simplified interface.

All options are in one window and everything is accessible and intuitive.

Quillbot also boasts a simple dashboard, but a tad more complicated as they have many more tools than Wordtune.

Winner- Wordtune.

Wordtune vs Quillbot – Paraphrasing Performance

Wordtune and Quillbot are both AI-powered writing tools that can help users with paraphrasing, but there are some differences in how they perform.

Quillbot Paraphrasing Performance

Quillbot Paraphraser App

Quillbot started as a premium quality paraphrasing tool specifically designed to rephrase text while maintaining the original meaning.

Their paraphraser uses AI to analyze the text and generate alternative versions similar in meaning but different in wording and structure.

Quillbot currently offers 8 different rewriting modes (Standard, Fluency, Shorten, Expand, Creative, Formal, Simple, and Custom) that can be customized based on the level of complexity or simplicity desired. The paraphrased output is plagiarism-free and grammatically correct.

For example, I took a paragraph from my Grammarly vs Hemingway App guide and pasted it into the Quillbot paraphraser editor. Then I told Quillbot to paraphrase in Creative mode while keeping the synonyms settings to medium.

Here are the results:

Quillbot Paraphraser app rewriting content in the Creative mode

Very good in my humble opinion.

And here’s the same content in the “Formal” mode.

Quillbot Paraphraser app rewriting content in Formal mode

Pro tip– the two examples above turned out great, but keep in mind that Quillbot is not perfect. For example, it’s worth noting that the quality of the paraphrasing output varies depending on the complexity of the text and the specific mode or setting used in each tool.

Also, Quillbot is excellent at paraphrasing paragraphs and individual sentences, while it struggles with medium and longer texts. So you won’t be able to use Quillbot to paraphrase entire essays with a push of a button.

However, no tool currently available on the market can do that.

Not Quillbot, not Wordtune.

Wordtune

Wordtune is also an excellent content paraphraser and the one I often use instead of Quillbot, especially if I feel Quillbot gave me robotic-sounding text that no human would read without noticing something’s off.

Wordtune in my opinion adds that human touch a tad better than Quillbot, but again, this is only occasionally the problem as Quillbot is still my preferred choice.

Here’s how paraphrasing with Wordtune works.

First, here’s below how the Wordtune paraphraser demo looks and works on the Wordtune landing page.

You can see it gave me 3 decent paraphrased versions of the text I fed it, and the character limit is 280 characters.

Not bad, but severely limited.

See below how Wordtune premium works.

Wordtune demo paraphraser gives 3 examples of paraphrased text

First I logged into the Wordtune dashboard. Then I took a snippet of text from my “Grammarly for Gmail” post and pasted it into Wordtune.

Next, I went sentence by sentence paraphrasing the content. Wordtune can’t rewrite entire paragraphs with a push of a button.

Instead, if your paragraph has 6 sentences like in my example here, then you need to rewrite each sentence individually.

However, unlike the demo on the homepage, instead of 3, Wordtune Premium gives you 10 different variations of your sentence, and all are very good.

Wordtune paraphrases sentence by sentence

Pro tip: Wordtune gives you four paraphrasing modes to work with. Casual, Formal, Shorten and Expand. I find I get the best results with the Formal mode, while Creative is the least useful to me because Wordtune often makes things up (AI hallucination) and strays off the topic.

Quillbot or Wordtune- Which is a Better Paraphrasing Tool?

If you need a complete paraphrasing service, Quillbot may be more effective. If you need alternative wording or phrasing suggestions on a sentence level, Wordtune may be more useful. It’s worth trying both tools to see which works best for your particular needs.

Because Quillbot offers more paraphrasing modes, it wins this category.

Winner- Quillbot

Quillbot vs Wordtune- Summarizing

Both Quillbot and Wordtune can summarize chinks of texts and even entire documents. And one tool is better than the other.

See how they compare below.

Quillbot

Quillbot Summarizer is a free tool you can use to summarize the content. You don’t need to open a Quillbot account and with the free version, the limit is 1200 words.

If you want more you can upgrade to Quillbot Premium and get the 6000 word summarization limit.

Summarizer comes in two modes:

  • paragraph mode (summarizes in paragraphs).
  • bullet mode (summarizes in bullet points).

To use the tool all you need to do is copy the text you want to summarize and paste it into the Quillbot Summarizer editor.

Then select the keywords you want Quillbot to base summarized text around, pick paragraph or bullet point mode, pick the desired length, and press “Summarize”.

Here’s an example from one of my articles:

Quillbot Summarizer paragraph mode

And here’s the same text summarized in bullet points.

Quillbot Summarizer in bullet points

Now, let’s see how Quillbt summarizes entire articles. I took my Quillbot discount code article and copied the contents into the Quillbot Summarizer editor.

Quillbot Summarizer did not summarize longer content well

Ohh, it’s not good.

The content is presented in several chunky paragraphs and reading through shows there’s no logical sentence flow.

In fact, it’s just a smattering of sentences I’d need to plow through and organize to make it useful. Honestly, it’d be less hassle for me to read the article Quillbot summarized in its entirety.

Now let’s see what Wordtune can do.

Wordtune

Wordtune’s answer to Quillbot Summarizer is Wordtune Read, a free content summarizer that can summarize long articles into digestible chunks.

Here’s how it works.

First, within the Wordtune editor click the “Read and Summarize” button.

Wordtune Read and Summarize tool

Second, add the text you want to summarize. You can add a link, copy/paste content or upload a PDF file from your computer.

For simplicity’s sake, I’ll use the URL of my Quillbot student discount page (https://nikolaroza.com/quillbot-discount-code/).

Click the blue” Read” button.

Add a URL for Wordtune to summarize

Third, Wordtune Read will summarize the content from the URL and present the results.

Overall result is not bad at all. On the left, there is summarized content and on the right paragraphs (from the original content) which are summarized are highlighted.

I like this and the content reads well.

Having written the article in question I know Wordtune did a good job summarizing that blog post.

I’m impressed!

Wordtune superbly summarized my content

Pro tip: telling Wordtune to summarize from URL mean it’ll summarize everything it finds, including supplementary content.

For example, it summarized my author bio on the page which is completely unnecessary. For better results, I suggest you manually copy and paste the content you want to summarize because that will give you the cleanest results.

Wordtune summarized wrong content on a page

Quillbot or Wordtune- Which Tool Offers a Better Content Summarizer?

Quillbot offers 2 summarizing modes, while Wordtune only has one. Both tools are excellent at paraphrasing short snippets of text.

However, as seen from the examples above Quillbot is not as good as Wordtune at summarizing longer articles.

Winner- Wordtune

Quillbot vs Wordtune – Integrations

Both Quillbot and Wordtune offer plenty of integrations you can use to enhance your user experience with these two tools.

Quillbot Integrations

All Quillbot integrations

QuillBot offers a Chrome extension that works almost everywhere you write speeding up your writing in the process. You can use the extension in Google Docs, all the major social media platforms, email clients, etc.

Quillbot extensions for Chrome and Microsoft Word are convenient to use, but they offer limited capabilities compared to the web-based app.

Via the 2 extensions, you will have access to Quillbot Paraphraser, Quillbot Grammar Checker, Quillbot Summarizer, and Quillbot Translator.

You will not have access to Quillbot Plagiarism Checker, Quillbot Citation Generator, and Quillbot Co-Writer.

Wordtune Integrations

All Wordtune extensions

Wordtune also offers a Chrome extension that seamlessly integrates with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and email clients…

Wordtune Chrome extension also works on Gmail, WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack Web, and more.

Quillbot or Wordtune- Which App Offers More and Better Integrations?

Quillbot and Wordtune are tied when it comes to integrations via Google Chrome. Meaning, anywhere the Quillbot Chrome extension works, so does the Wordtune extension too.

However, Quillbot also offers an add-on for Microsoft Word, and although in my testing I found it to be a little buggy, it’s still worked fine most of the time and this is something Wordtune doesn’t offer at all.

Winner- Quillbot (by a slight margin).

Wordtune vs Quillbot – Pricing

Wordtune and Quillbot offer a range of pricing options, including a free version with limited features and paid versions with additional functionality.

Both options are remarkably inexpensive relative to bespoke content companies, such as copywriters or pitch deck consultants.

Quillbot’s Pricing Plans

Quillbot pricing and plans

Quillbot offers a forever free version with limited features and several paid versions with additional features and functionalities.

Quillbot offers 3 paid plans:

  • Quillbot Free;
  • Quillbot Monthly– $19.95/mo;
  • Quillbot Semi-Annual – $13.33 per month, or $79.95 paid once in a 6-month period;
  • Quillbot Yearly– $8.33 per month, or  $99.95 billed once in a 12-month period.

The monthly Quillbot plan is the most expensive one and I don’t recommend it to anyone except those who truly need Quillbot for just one month.

A 6-month Quillbot plan gives you a 33% discount, and I recommend it to people who need Quillbot for a few months, but not for the entire year.

A 12-month Quillbot plan gives you the largest, 58% discount and is best suited for those looking to use Quillbot long-term. And as a large bonus, Quillbot’s yearly plan is eligible for an additional large discount. You can read about the Quillbot coupon code in my guide here.

Quillbot or Wordtune Pricing- Which Tool is More Affordable?

Wordtune and Quillbot offer a range of pricing options to suit different needs and budgets.

The free versions can be an excellent way to try out the tools and see if they’re a good fit, while the paid versions offer additional features and functionality that can be useful for more advanced users or teams.

Both tools are similarly priced, however, Quillbot with its many extra features gives you more value for dollars spent.

Also, Quillbot’s free version is unlimited in usage and time, while Wordtune only gives you 10 actions per day, which in my opinion is shamefully little.

Don’t fall for it.

#10- Can I use Premium User Cookies to Access Quillbot and Wordtune for Free?

You can use premium user cookies to access Quillbot and Wordtune for free.

However, I don’t recommend it.

This is because it’s hard to find working cookies at the exact moment you’re looking for them; they expire really fast; they randomly stop working, and above all, you won’t have access to all features of the tools.

#11- Can I use Group Buy  Telegram Groups to Access Quillbot and Wordtune for Free?

You can use group buy Telegram groups to access Quillbot and Wordtune for free. However, I don’t recommend it.

No, Quillbot and Wordtune can’t replace human editors. They’re not that good. However, human editors working with either Quillbot or Wordtune are overpowered.

#17- Are Quillbot and Wordtune Parphrased Outputs Detectable by AI Content Detectors?

AI content detectors are a class of tools still in their infancy, simply because AI content generators (powered by ChatGPT, GPT-3, GPT-J, GPT-Neo, GPT-4) are so new on the market as well.

Also, both Quillbot and Wordtune use their proprietary AI to rewrite and summarize content so their outputs are largely undetectable by tools built to detect content created by LLM’s (Large Language Models).

The only exception to that might be Originality.ai, the best AI content detector on the market. However, Quillbot claim their outputs are undetectable.

You can read my Originality.ai reviewOriginality.ai coupon, Originality.ai pricing, and Originality.ai free trial articles to learn more about it.

#18- Are Quillbot and Wordtune Better Paraphrasers than Jasper AI?

Quillbot and Wordtune are mainly paraphrasing tools while Jasper AI is a GPT-powered AI writing tool that can create content based on inputs and also paraphrase content.

Based on my experience and testing, GPT-powered paraphrasing is about the same quality as what Quillbot and Wordtune can give you.

However, Jasper AI is significantly more expensive than either of the two. Also keep in mind that all major AI content detectors focus on catching GPT-generated content, while the outputs generated by Quillbot and Wordtune largely fly under the radar.

Read my Jasper AI review to learn more about it. Other good read is my Jasper AI pricing guide

#19- Are Quillbot and Wordtune Better Paraphrasers than Grammarly?

Both Quillbot and Wordtune are better paraphrasers than Grammarly. This is because Grammarly is not a content paraphraser and it cannot rewrite content the same way Wordtune and Quillbot can.

To learn more about Grammarly read my Grammarly paraphrasing guide and also my guides to Grammarly Premium free trial, Grammarly pricing, and Grammarly student discount next!

#20- Is Quillbot Better than Wordtune for Students? Why?

Quillbot is better for students than Wordtune because of several reasons.

First, it gives unlimited paraphrasing with its two paraphrasing modes.

Second, it provides a free summarizer, translator, grammar checker, and citation generator, (and Quillbot constantly introduces new tools, with the latest being Quillbot Translator)

Wordtune, on the other hand, is not good for students because the free version is extremely limited, while the paid version gives you less than Quillbot’s free version.

That said, both Quillbot and Wordtune are equally good at paraphrasing content (Quillbot has more paraphrasing modes), while Wordtune is better at summarizing content.

#21- Is Quillbot Better than Wordtune for Teachers? Why?

Quillbot and Wordtune are primarily paraphrasing tools and as a teacher, you won’t find much value there.

But as a teacher, you might be interested in Quillbot Plagiarism Checker as a substitute for Turnitin.

I suggest you stick to Turnitin as a proper plagiarism checker. It’s better than Quillbot and also cheaper.

And yes, Turnitin can detect Quillbot paraphrase content (read my guide to the best paraphrasing tools to beat Turnitin to know what you’re up against).
